How it All Started…
K&K Systems began with one straightforward goal: To build a billing tool that can help medical providers commence their business. Kevin & Sue met at Grumman Data Systems in July 1974, where they developed a shared discipline for precision and process. In 1980, while still working their full-time job, they partnered with a group of chiropractors and physicians to design a billing platform around front-desk, clinical, and insurance payer workflows. After years of custom coding tailored for specific needs, Practice Made Perfect (PMP) was launched in 1983.
By 1984, Sue stepped back from her consulting job at Chase to manage the growing software business while welcoming their son, Keith. At this time, Kevin continued working and commuting to Manhattan each day while coding the PMP billing software by night. As years continued to progress, demand accelerated as practices saw faster reimbursements and fewer errors. As adoption of the billing software expanded nationwide, Kevin left his day job, and the software company became their full-time focus. The next several years were dedicated to disciplined iteration, aligning PMP to evolving payer rules, strengthening reporting, and formalizing support so busy offices could get reliable outcomes without extra complexity.
From the outset, K&K was built with providers, not just for them. Feedback loops with clinicians shaped features; compliance and documentation standards guided every release. That approach proved especially valuable in No-Fault and Workers’ Compensation, where timelines, forms, and evidentiary requirements demand exactness. As the product matured, K&K added complementary billing and collections and consulting services, closing the loop from clean charge capture to final payment and giving practices a single accountable partner.
Today, more than four decades after launch, K&K remains family-led and results-focused. We continue to invest in software that is current with coding and payer policy, in training that keeps teams sharp, and in service models that provide clear ownership and measurable improvements. The principle that started it all still guides us: get claims right the first time, maintain rigorous compliance, and keep cash flow predictable—so healthcare providers can stay focused on patient care.
